Is It Time for Professional Upholstery Cleaning?

Posted on: 6 June 2016

Upholstered furniture can be a lovely addition to any home. Unfortunately, however, this type of furniture also has a way of getting dirty quickly and of showing its age long before non-fabric furniture. For regular, everyday cleaning, a simple swabbing with a damp cloth will usually do the trick for getting rid of dust, dirt, and minor surface stains. With that said, however, there does come a time when basic cleaning isn't enough and when you will require the services of a professional upholstery cleaning company. And, unfortunately, if you wait too long to get a professional cleaning done, the quality and beauty of your furniture could suffer permanently. For that reason, it is important to recognize the signs that you need a professional cleaning and to tend to your furniture immediately if you notice these signs in your furniture.

Excessive Pet Hair

If you have a cat, dog, or other furry friend that you regard as one of the family, you probably already know all too well that pet hair has a way of getting everywhere, including on your upholstered furniture. Obviously, if you don't want to develop a major pet hair problem, you should keep pets off furniture, but, even if you do that, pet hair has a way of getting in the air and of settling on everything around it, including your furniture.

For awhile, you can get away with combating pet hair build up through regular vacuuming and the use of a lint brush or upholstery cleaning attachment. Eventually, though, if the pet hair "grime" gets bad enough and your usual tools are no longer cutting it, you are going to need some professional tools to get your furniture looking fresh again. So, if you notice that pet hair still clings to your furniture after your regular cleaning routine, it's probably time to call a professional upholstery cleaning service.

Staining

No matter how well you guard your upholstered furniture against staining, it's bound to happen eventually. Whether you drop a piece of food on your favorite chair or someone puts his dirty feet up on the upholstery, stains are bound to happen sooner or later. When they do, you can take the risk of using a stain cleaner, which could ruin your upholstery, or you could be smart and call in a professional.

While it's okay to try dabbing at stains with a damp cloth, when that doesn't cut it, it is always better to call a professional cleaner than it is to take a chance with your beloved furniture and those harsh store-bought cleaners.

If you love your furniture and want to take great care of it and make it last as long as possible, keep these signs in mind and call a professional when needed.
